Authentication and Legalization

REQUIREMENTS FOR POWER OF ATTORNEY ( WEKILINA ) AND OTHER DOCUMENT AUTHENTICATION

  • Power of Attorney and all other documents (Such as Power of Attorney, Adoption, Trade Mark, Property Rights, Court Decisions, Birth Certificates, Marriage or Divorce Certificates, etc) must be authenticated by your State Office and then by the Foreign Department prior to applying to the Embassy.
  • All documents originating in Ethiopia should be authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.
  • All applications must be sent via mail with an envelope that has a TRACKING NUMBER. The applications must also have a self-addressed, prepaid DHL, or DHL EXPRESS MAIL return envelope which has a tracking Number. You don’t have to call the Embassy to check whether your application has been received or returned back to you since you have the option to track it online at the respective mailing company’s website.

1. POWER OF ATTORNEY (WIKILINA), COURT DECISIONS, AND PECUNIARY DOCUMENTS

A. For Ethiopians and Holders of Ethiopian Origin ID

  • Power of Attorney document authenticated by the Protocol Department in which the applicant is residing and then authenticated of the same document by the Foreign Minister.
  • For holders of valid Ethiopian passports, attach a copy of the passport with a copy of a resident card of the country lining in. For holders of Valid Ethiopian origin ID Cards, attach a copy of your Ethiopian-origin ID Card;
  • A service fee of $62  per document for each authentication is payable to the Embassy of Ethiopia in money order;

  • A self-addressed return envelope that has a tracking number (DHL, or DHL EXPRESS MAIL) with it.

B. For those who don’t have valid Ethiopian Passports or Ethiopian-origin ID Cards and for Other Nationals

  • Power of Attorney document authenticated by the Protocol Department at the Foreign minister in which the applicant is residing and then authenticated of the same document by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • A service fee of $ 95 per document is payable to the Embassy of Ethiopia via bank transfer.

2. FOR OTHER DOCUMENTS (SUCH AS CERTIFICATE OF EDUCATION, BIRTH, MARRIAGE, DRIVING LICENCE, ETC)

A. Authenticating Documents Originating in the Nordic.

  • Authenticated documents by the Notarius issued the document; And then authentication of the same document by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Click here for Authentication requirements.
  • If you have attached a valid Ethiopian Passport or if you have attached a copy of a valid Ethiopian Origin ID Card, the service fee is $30 per document payable in the form of a money order. If not, a service fee of $ 30 per document.
